This wasn’t the plan.
A midlife journey of better health, more adventure,
and a life that actually feels like mine.
I’m a science nerd at heart, a lifelong traveler, a water lover, and a woman learning how to make this chapter of life healthier, happier, and a whole lot more intentional.
I’ve taken a pretty winding road to get here — through nutrition and science, nearly 25 years in software, building another business, raising a family, and eventually realizing that taking care of everyone and everything else couldn’t keep coming before taking care of me.
Explore the Blog →“Salty” has always been part of me. I grew up around the water, learned to sail young, and some of the places that make me happiest still involve an ocean, a boat, a kayak, or a shoreline.
“Thriving” is what I want this stage of life to be — not simply getting through it, but feeling better, staying curious, doing the things I love, and making room for the people and experiences that matter.
Salty & Thriving is where those two worlds meet.
Water.
Both, please.
A winding path (with a purpose)
I started college at Florida State University, where I earned my Associate of Arts degree and tried on more than one idea about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Pre-med came first, followed by business, before my interests in nutrition, science, and health finally started pointing me in the right direction.
After 2½ years at FSU, I transferred to the University of Florida and earned my Bachelor of Science in Food Science with a specialization in Dietetics. I originally planned to become a registered dietitian, but the required internship wasn’t realistic for me at that point, and life took me in another direction.
So life took a turn. I worked in real estate, spent several years in the funeral industry, became a mom, and eventually landed in vacation-rental software — where I’ve now spent nearly 25 years and taken on many different roles along the way.
About nine years ago, my husband and I also started a direct cremation business from scratch, which later grew into a full funeral home. While still working full-time in software, I went back to school, completed the required education and experience, and earned my Florida Funeral Director’s license.
For years, I juggled two businesses, long hours, family, and a whole lot of responsibility. Somewhere in the middle of all that, perimenopause showed up — and eventually my body made it pretty clear that simply pushing through everything wasn’t going to work anymore.
Real Life. Real Solutions.
This isn’t about quick fixes or perfection. It’s about figuring things out — one step at a time — and sharing what actually helps. Here you’ll find my honest experiences, useful information, and the things that make this season feel lighter, stronger, and a whole lot more fun.
Water, Mountains, and Wide Open Spaces
I’ve always felt most like myself outdoors — on the water, in the mountains, or anywhere there’s an adventure waiting.
I grew up sailing in Florida and spending summers in the Pacific Northwest with my grandparents and parents. That love for the water, mountains, and wide-open spaces never left me.
These days, I don’t get to disappear for months at a time. I work full-time, have businesses and responsibilities, and real life still needs tending to. But I’ve learned how important it is to actually use the time I do have — whether that means two weeks sailing with my family, a snowboarding trip, a hike somewhere new, a day on the water, or simply getting outside close to home.
Adventure doesn’t have to mean escaping your life. Sometimes it’s what helps you come back to it feeling more like yourself.
